WSTC educators mentor high school students, ages 15-18, to become peer educators for middle school students. They learn how to teach the 4 session "Dads Make A Difference" curriculum, designed to help young people understand the realities, responsibilities and challenges involved in parenting; the importance of being a responsible, prepared parent; and encourage young people to be responsible and avoid actions that will lead to pregnancy. This group of participants taught 129 presentations to over 1000 middle school students in 2004.
Middle school recipients enjoy being taught by older students who they admire and respect. The peer educators develop skill and competency in communication and public speaking, have the opportunity to feel valued and to contribute to others, and develop organizational and problem solving skills.
